Skimming
Skimming and plastering are often used as interchangeable terms but there is a difference. Skimming is the top layer of a plaster coating and often when people say they need a plastering job they actually just mean the skimming of the surface but that doesn't mean skimming is the same as plastering. If we're talking about repairing holes or evening out surfaces then it's a full on plastering job. The key to good skimming is that people are always surprised by just how little time you have to work on top coat plaster before it hardens, and that means a professional skimmer has to bring a unique combination of skill and speed to the job.
Skim Plaster Skim plaster is a very fine mix with high wet adhesion to make it easy to apply and since it is the top layer it has to be perfectly mixed and blended which we can do with a mix of manual blending and the use of high torque mechanical whisks. Because we prize perfection we can also divide up areas to be skimmed with stop end beads – the grids that plaster adheres to in order to work on smaller sections with the focus required to produce perfect skim. Timing is Everything Because skim plaster sets so fast it needs to be worked as smoothly and as quickly as humanly possible and that's what makes skimming a job best left to the pros. Our skilled and qualified plasterers have hundreds of hours of experience of smooth skim application and so you can rely on us for perfect skim results. Multiple Coats Much like paint the best results with skim come from making a number of passes with multiple coats and building it up with repeated thin layers of skim. Because skim dries so fast this doesn't mean the job will take many days but it does require expertise to know how many coats, and when to apply each one. We'll be happy to advise you about just what your particular skimming job entails in order to result in perfectly smooth skim finish, without any trowel marks or uneven patches. Just as we work to the different SR (Surface Regularity) ratings of floor screeding we can also talk about your specific requirements when it comes to the level of perfection of your skimming – from glass smooth to utility. Ceilings Yes we also skim ceilings, and despite the obvious difficulties involved in working on an overhead surface we have the speed and skill required to apply perfect skim to any ceiling. So whether you are looking to refresh an existing plastered surface with a new all over skim, including the ceiling to match, or whether you are looking for a new drywall division and suspended ceiling combination as you reassign spaces in a building, we are the team you need to apply that perfect skim and leave the walls and ceilings looking absolutely perfect. In combination with our screeding skills for floors that makes us the professionals you need for new construction, renovation, or remodelling jobs of all sizes. |
